Would you be happy with a team that was say mid table, but was an entertaining team and gave there all every game or is it all about winning no matter what style of hockey they played. Personally if i cant have an entertaining winning team, i would be happy with a lower position team that i looked forward to going to watch every game. Preferably a team that the opposition hated playing against

No, not a chance...
I am sorry but I am firmly in the camp that winning is everything and the only thing.
Of course I want to be entertained but I would rather go through a season winning every game 1-0 or 2-1 and taking the silverware on offer every single time.
Winning is confidence building and also Hockey is a game where to win there are certain things you really have to do to get it done... and you have to do those things well, and once you do the entertainment will follow..
Defensive Hockey or trap hockey is a brilliant example of this, were a team basically concentrates primarily on not letting an opposition team score, well before they prioritise scoring themselves. Some say it makes for a boring game (and yes it certainly can do) the exact opposite is the run and gun hockey were if they score 4 we must score 5!
I guarantee Trap hockey as won many more championships that the run and gun approach or even skilful but non contact hockey we seem to be watching.
All so to take into consideration is that a great deal of the mean, gritty, in yer face balls to the wind tough guy, hard hitting and checking hockey comes from trap style hockey, just ask the likes of Dave Matsos,Mike Blaisdell and Alex Dampier who all had big ass 6ft plus built like an outside privy defenders and backchecking power forwards..
Granted in the early days we were steam rolling some teams into double digit scores, but that was really early and poor teams compared to the talent we had, in the later years especially the ISL etc we had winning teams that knew how to defend and winning was a habit born out of absolutely NOT LOSING...

You just have to look at this season. Our results pre-christmas were good, I felt the hockey on the whole was dull and attritional.
I'd be happier with a fourth place hockey team that brought it every night rather than watching a winning team boring the pants of me for the vast majority of the season.

Boring/clinical/defensive hockey is fine if you're winning trophy after trophy. Difficult to argue against if you're winning silverware.
Usually winning hockey does bring with it some entertainment, especially in the EIHL. Belfast are a good watch from example.
Unfortunately our hockey for me isn't very entertaining, apart from about 5 games a year. We've not won a trophy for almost two seasons
At least two of the games I've enjoyed this season were the two loses in Belfast. So it's not all about wining for me, it's leaving it all out on the ice, which Fox's last two teams have done for about 40% of the season.
Hence no silverware in the trophy cabinet.

My point is, or rather part of my point is.. that winning teams tend to be good teams and in large part good teams are far more entertaining than the bad ones...
Speak to a Storm fan... Most of them I speak to are pig sick of their style of entertaining hockey..
It's a fine line I agree, but I would rather be winning and work out the style of hockey than losing and try and fix it afterwards..

What's entertaining about losing...
