Agreed Greeny, for most of the ISL I saw the Storm as bigger rivals than the Panthers.
That was driven by the Storm having better teams and bringing more supporters to the Arena than Nottingham. The Panthers became a bit of an irrelevance during the ISL, if we wanted to compete for silverware it was he Storm we needed to beat.
It was a real shame how it all fell apart for Manchester, but I guess their success was built on much shakier foundations than ours.
I wasn't at the 18,000 game, but I do remember the first playoffs in Manchester when there were around 13,000 in attendance, of which 4,000+ must have been Steelers. I still maintain that was the biggest travelling support in British hockey history.
Memories of the Cathedral Arches pub, the best ever hockey pub. I remember going for a beer before the first semi final and it was a real shambles. The staff couldn't cope with the numbers and customers were getting irate. For the 2nd game they sorted themselves out with a bottle bar with all drinks £1......they sold a lot of bottles.
I remember being told they lost thousands when the ISL/EIHL forgot to book the arena in time and lost out to the Teletubbies. That's when the event moved to Nottingham and became more expensive.

I remember attending the playoffs in Manchester and being impressed with not having to queue for the toilets. I didn’t realise the reason it switched to Nottingham so thanks for that info.Doom wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 4:43 amAgreed Greeny, for most of the ISL I saw the Storm as bigger rivals than the Panthers.

Looked a feisty game in Manchester last night with over 130 PIMs.

Wonder if they’ll bring that style of game today? If I was setting up against an Aaron Fox team I would bring the physical style of play.

The Kleinendorst recruited team in their black away jerseys were an intimidating sight as they came out on the ice, they seemed bigger and quicker than anyone else who visited and I certainly viewed them as the hardest team to play against and it became an intense rivalry because of that.Doom wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 4:43 amAgreed Greeny, for most of the ISL I saw the Storm as bigger rivals than the Panthers.

The actions of the referee ought to be addressed by the EIHL, if a player made contact with an intentional kicking motion they could be looking at a long ban, it should not be acceptable for an official to do it.smbmetal wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 11:22 amLooked a feisty game in Manchester last night with over 130 PIMs.

Really disappointed not to be there today. We would be as season ticket holders but just cannot leave our dog who is terrified by the ridiculous fireworks every single night. So inconsiderate and annoying. It’s totally out of control now. So it’s the stream for us watching with a shivering dog on my lap probably.

Really way too long a competition in my mind.
Don't think Storm have a great record at the arena only winning about 2 games in the last 100 years?
5-2 Steelers.
Was anyone in attendance for this game?

Yup, we were there. Happy days.

If you were playing a team of nuns, you'd be settling for for a physical game.smbmetal wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 11:22 amLooked a feisty game in Manchester last night with over 130 PIMs.

I do think it can change a game though if used correctly.
