Anyone else think tonight's performance by the Devils resembled how the Steelers performed in the last year of Thompson's period as our coach. ?

It hadn’t occurred to me during the game but looking back you’re absolutely correct. Oh dear.

It looked like a totally different team to the one we played preseason, I've seen on the highlights, and various sites so far this season.
I know there were missing Lacroix, who's got an edge to his game, that was clear in all the coverage so far, but that can't explain they're lack of bite / push back.
Even Brant was quiet. The only spark appeared to Helgeson, who took a game long dislike to Trembley.
Odd to see the big guns and leaders being anonymous for the Devils.

Early season Cardiff were probably the most impressive of the big 4.

Is it a case of Cardiff going backwards or everybody else catching them up? They did have the benefit of the long pre-season, which will have given them the jump on the rest.

I always had Cardiff down as a 4th place team, as things stand at the moment I think that was a reasonable call.

Regards

They were missing Yaremko I think, as well as Lacroix. The problem they've got is scoring depth. Yaremko was signed for the top 6 and they just don't have the guys to fill that hole on a consistent basis. Perlini has never had a 20 goal league season I believe (happy to stand corrected), and Barrow has never been a high scorer (or Lacroix when fit). That was their 3rd line as pencilled in by most pre-season.

On any given game, they could blow out any team in the league, but the predictions of 4th feel about right. But it could just be their turn for a slump.

I sit just behind the away bench and Thompson looked like a despondent man on a ledge at 4 -0 down. The players seemed to be avoiding him and just going through the motions.

We must sit very near to you. When he called a timeout, it just looked chaotic. But he’s the best coach in the world so it must turn out ok.
