Soooooo kicking myself I passed on this one lol

I’ve been complaining for a while now about team toughness and that togetherness. As a former player I can attest that nothing gels a group more than getting stuck into the rough stuff together - hopefully this gels a few bonds now and gives everyone some confidence.

Feel bigger - play bigger - it really does work.

Congrats to the team on the weekend as seems like this could be a real momentum builder on the team building confidence side of things.

Thanks again to the forum for the updates.

Cheers
You're not the only one kicking yourself, I might have missed the best game of the season!

Hopefully the highlights will show me what I missed out on.

How good is it though to have this type of game with a bit of everything? I bet the atmosphere was great!

Great result all round. Shame this type of game is as rare as 'hen's teeth' these days.

Really hope that's sparked some proper player rivalry though for the next game!

Wonder if DOPS will look at the fight pre-2nd period was it? I can see an 'excessive roughing' game suspension handed out to both players?

Jenion was pushing and shoving, and generally agitating heard at the start ,Jenion was looking to wind up Heard and probably wanting Heard to react back in a stupid way, Heard just shook it off laughing more than anything..
Locke skated over and 100% chirped something at heard from behind him and then instigated a fight by shaking off his gloves and mouthing off more at Heard, calling him out, Heard answered the bell in a flash and rang it for him...
It would be really hard to attribute any excessive roughing call to either of them really, maybe Locke could draw an extra instigator penalty, but thats all i can see as a possibility.. :wonder:

Heard took one for the team and for me was an inteligent penalty to take, if ever one was needed, nothing planned or over the top.. and had the desired effect, because the entire Storm team were a complete shadow of themselves for that 3rd period... it has to be added too that Tansey played his part afterwards too has it was more than obvious he was having a few words with Jenion and a few others in later shifts...

I see.

I was wondering whether a dim view (from DOPS) will have been taken, with the game not actually in play as such/period not yet started?

Pleased Heard answered and rang Locke's bell though. Top man

Locke actually tapped the back of Heard's legs with his stick as if to say let's go, Heard answered the call, so Locke should get any instigator penalties if anything comes of it.

IIHF Rulebook:

46.9. FIGHTING OTHER THAN DURING THE PERIODS OF THE GAME
Any teams whose Players become involved in an altercation, other than during the periods of the game, will be investigated by Proper Authorities and supplementary discipline can be applied in addition to any other appropriate penalties that may be imposed upon the participating Players by Supplementary Discipline or otherwise. Players involved in “fighting” other than during the periods of the game shall be assessed a major penalty (“Fighting”) and an automatic game misconduct penalty (5’+GMP). An “Aggressor” and/ or an “Instigator / Initiator” shall be penalised according to the respective Rule 46.3 and/or Rule 46.4.
Cases of altercations taking place after a period or game will be reported to the Proper Authorities for further Supplementary Disciplinary action.
Should Players come onto the ice from their Players’ benches after the period ends and prior to the start of an altercation, they shall not be penalised if they remain in the vicinity of their Players’ bench and provided, they do not get involved in any altercations.

As always the IIHF rulebook is as clear as mud, deliberately vague as well, so DOPS can interpret the circumstances to fit their agenda any given day...

Potentially could get a game, but from what I've seen on the stream, I doubt it. Heard seems to have handled both fights well, nothing excessive and not seemingly got upset at officials and given Locke taking a little whack at his legs to get him to fight seems like the game misconduct will be the end of it.
