Justin Hodgman & Manchester forward Jared VanWormer both fined for the bench fracas in the third period on Saturday.

Hodgman for his “actions on the bench” which appears to be spraying his water bottle.

VanWormer for failing to enter the penalty box when directed.

I guess that means Latal's injury was just an accident and no further action needed.

The suspension to Coventry's Hamonic is ridiculous.

If Waller has the puck, it's a fair hit. 2 minutes for interference is more than enough.

We're on a slippery slope here. We have linos jumping in when players are ready to fight to break it up before it starts. We're overreacting on stuff like the Hamonic incident.

The game in the UK can not survive on hockey alone. We don't pay enough to attract top end skilled guys to make hockey games over here exciting purely from a skilled perspective. The game needs a bit of niggle and physicality, or games will become stale, boring and the fans will stop coming.

There's a reason why people seem to enjoy the Manchester games more than most.

I couldn't agree more...

There is certainly a fine line between goonery and the physical aspects of the game of ice hockey.. It look to me as they are trying to bring back the ridiculous Zero Tolerance era again and that went down like a fart in a spacesuit.. Those running the league are out of touch with the reality of the paying fan that watches the teams week in week out and the casual fan that sees something he likes and returns to the sport on a regular basis..

If the league insist on turning out a sterile drab meaningless show week in week out the majority of fans will walk away eventually.

Our own marketing team is on the top of its game but they work their collective buts off week in week out selling the game on the odd highlight reels that show about 5% max of the action we actually see.. show me a highlight reel that shows only great plays and clinical goals and I will show you a product we can't sell.

DOPS is needed, and it should be there for the right reasons! not to punish every every bit of dancing around handbags they spot in every match or punish incidents that were already dealt with during a game with the rules the officials already use... :hockey:

The hits always look worse in slow motion. I wouldn’t have suspended either Hamonic or Louis. Unfortunately we keep getting told that the game has changed. I’m sure in another 10 years the game will become so stale the UK side might not survive. Wish there were more teams like Storm in the league to be honest. We used to have some snarl. Don’t think we’ve had that since Paul Kruse and Dennis Vial days. Desbiens and Fitzy were probably the last of the old school that we’ll see play for the Steelers.

Fox clearly doesn’t like that style of play either.

I don’t want to see the physical side of the game disappear either but nor do I like goonery. I see Manchester much closer to goonery, hence I don’t like them.

Haven’t looked at either of these incidents so won’t comment on that but agree DOPS is needed for player safety, not to sanitise the game of any physical play.

For Hamonic the hit itself wasn’t dirty, but the fact Waller didn’t have the puck meant he’s ineligible to be hit in any manner so hitting him that hard is always going to get you a penalty.

Same with Louis, if he does that hit centre ice it’s okay but it’s his responsibility not to send him dangerously into the boards.

This is my main concern - the hard work by the club will ultimately be let down by the product. I mean, maybe I've got it wrong? The newbies may find this exciting, but I don't think this is the case.
