I think Greenfield probably as a massive input into what backup goalie Fox signs and may have even influenced his decision to sign for 3 years...

Best bit of business we'll do this summer.

A proven Grade A EIHL netminder locked in for 3 seasons.

I do get where ginger is coming from though, with the way they'd put things out on social media it was easy to interpret as 3 signings today, rather than just the one, so for that reason there is a bit of an anti climax.

It would have been better just to build it up as one big signing today and keep the 3 out of it.

A very positive day though, so a big thumbs up for all those who made it happen.

Just one final thought, does this make it a bit harder to get a back-up? With Greener locked in, it's unlikely a back-up will come in and take over as number one the following season.

Fox said in his interview with Pete Spencer that he's looking at a few options, potentially bringing in an older veteran who understands the situation but wants to be part of a winning organisation - younger NA guys are more likely to jet back home if an opportunity arises, Morrone was slightly unique in the fact he was done with ECHL and wanted to be in Europe so was perfect in that role.

Definitely need someone capable of taking 20 games

I can't say I'm convinced by Fox's record with older veterans, they usually end up injured or fairly average.

Who was the guy on the Uni course who signed at the same time as Greenfield? I don't think he ever played due to injury.

I'd be more confident with a younger guy using us as a stepping stone into Europe, if we can find one.

It depends on what's out there. Goalie market is difficult as everyone wants that starter job. Morrone really was quite unique in the fact he was young but had no desire to go through the ECHL/AHL merry go round. He needed enough starts to prove he could be a starter and got that here. But most would be straight back over if not getting starts and a starter/split job comes up in the Coast.

Whilst McCollum wasn't spectacular, someone on that sort of level and age is more likely to be available. I had a quick look at DEL2 and ICEHL older back ups from last year, and there's really not much out there. There's one I've got an eye on and hopefully we've enquired but who knows.

Ostlund was the guy who signed same time as Greenfield. Got injured and I don't think he really got back to where he was given age etc.

Wasn't McCollum an NHL goalie, albeit briefly ( he was ).

Seems unlikely to expect to be able to sign someone of that level as a back up.

He was, but those days are well behind him. I think he's 34 now. Guys who've played at a high level tend to understand roles, and it can become a choice of playing 20 odd games for a team in ICEHL just trying to make the playoffs, or playing 20 games on a team that will expect to be in with a big chance of winning silverware. There's a lot of those guys who'll want to win a championship before they retire

Looking at the route map on Steelers twitter, it looks like you're correct.

I can't say I'm overly enthusiastic because of his age. It doesn't look like an upgrade to the likes of Sauce, but I'm sure Fox has his plan.
