I saw Sacha as a bit vanilla, didn't really do much wrong but never stood out the way Tansey and Cormier or even Saucerman on his night did.. he didn't ever clear the net well and didn't have much of an edge. I like to see in a defender.. I hope to see someone with size and attitude replace him. Our defence on the whole needs more grit and toughness, in my opinion...

Jordon Southorn linked as maybe his replacement? 35yo, 6.3” D man here’s what it says about him on elite prospectsJayboy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 04, 2025 10:52 amI saw Sacha as a bit vanilla, didn't really do much wrong but never stood out the way Tansey and Cormier or even Saucerman on his night did.. he didn't ever clear the net well and didn't have much of an edge. “ A big body, Southorn will play a physical game. He has good two-way ability and a hard point shot.
Skates and moves well”
I'm not quite sure what to make of Southorn, on paper I'd probably say a break even with Guimond.
His stats from Slovakia 3 years ago are very good. He was top points scoring defenceman on his team and 3rd on the +/-.
Two years ago in the DEL he was again top points scoring defenceman on his team, although well down the +/-. The DEL is however a very good league.
Last season in the French league he was 3rd highest scoring defenceman on his team and 7th on the +/-, but I'd rate the French league below ours.
Based on the above and the quality of the leagues, I'd say he's gone from very good.....to good......to average last season.
The direction of travel is definitely down, which you'd expect at 35, but I guess a lot will depend on how Fox plans to use him and who he pairs him with.......if he does sign of course.

As a 5th import D, I'm ok with Southorn. I suspect we will also see another new import D to round it out, hopefully a good puck mover in the Cormier style.
Would give. D line up of
Cormier - Huttula
Tansey - new
Southorn - Kelly
Our top 3 D are comparable to any signed so far, and if Southorn still moves well, he should provide excellent tutelage to Kelly.

Could do with a right shot offensive d man on that spot next to Tansey. May be hard to find.ginger wrote: ↑Wed Jun 04, 2025 2:44 pmAs a 5th import D, I'm ok with Southorn. I suspect we will also see another new import D to round it out, hopefully a good puck mover in the Cormier style.

Fox is less bothered by right/left shot pairings than maybe someone like Thommo was. Definitely needs to be a puck moving D, but I think he'll probably try to find best available rather than necessarily a right shot.paul johnston wrote: ↑Wed Jun 04, 2025 4:08 pmCould do with a right shot offensive d man on that spot next to Tansey. I wouldn't be shocked to see Diffley back.
He only hits 30 this year, so he's still at a good age.
Based on last season I'd be a little disappointed, but based on the season before I'd be happy to have him back.
As with other players, was he carrying an injury last season or was it just a drop off in form? Fox will know the answer to that one.

Possible, but I think if Southorn comes in, we need an extra puck moving D. Huttula, Tansey and Southorn all physical guys (Kelly can be too), so need that extra guy to help transition the play. Cormier might not be physical but he's so defensively sound, so could see an opening for a flashy offensive D rather than another shut down playerDoom wrote: ↑Fri Jun 06, 2025 8:29 amI wouldn't be shocked to see Diffley back.
