Player signings thread - Sheffield...

He has signed the player because he has potential,I have seen nothing yet to say he will be a reliable regular d.man for a team expected to compete for the titles. If that means he leaves then that's unfortunate but maybe opens the door for liam steele.

Kelly definitely leaves if we go 6 import D, unless there is a game day roster rule change to allow the 7th D or 13th fwd to ice. Alternatively we may have a 'spare' Brit if Whistle re-signs. That could lead to a situation where there's some rotation on Brits - i.e Kelly ices, Shudra/Neilson sits and Tansey plays fwd, and vice versa.
Not sure they'd be overjoyed with it, but helps cover injury to say Dowd

I thought Kelly was signed up for next season?
Edit : just looked up the 2025/26 roster & Kelly is on there.

He's signed up, but I think if Fox goes 6 import D, he'll walk. Unless any of the scenarios I mentioned above play out.BontSteeler wrote: ↑Sun Jun 08, 2025 3:23 pmI thought Kelly was signed up for next season?

I'll be surprised if we go 6 import d.
I think last season was a bit different because we lost Jones and I guess Fox wasn't confident of picking up a suitable calibre Brit before the season. Shudra would have been an option, but I think Fox prefers him as a forward offering an insurance policy against injury to our d.
I suspect Kelly became available and was brought in with this season in mind. Unless Fox has seen something he doesn't like, I'd expect to see Kelly on the 3rd line defensive pairing, with Shudra offering injury cover again.
I think we'll go 1-5-9 on the imports, with 1 Brit d and 3 Brit f (possibly 4 if Whistle stays).
Fox really likes to go with 4 forward lines, hoping to wear the opposition down. With Dowd likely to be playing in the top 9, that would give us the luxury of an import to help on that 4th line.
If Whistle does stay, which I doubt, I guess we'll sit a Brit each week and not bother with the cost of a spare import.....it would be a slightly different way of doing things.
Regards

3 year contract for Greenfield confirmed!
Well, guess it's just the one signing. Again, the announcement is great, but the build up again feels like too much in comparison to the payoff of finding out.

That' is awesome news and shows the measure of the man to me to commit to 3 years, and we thought loyalty was a thing of the past. I am very happy indeed..
We've just signed the TOP #No1 CHL goalie.. for 3 years, that's going to surprise a few teams

1 - 2 - 3 ,,,,,,cannot see anybody not being happy with this signing,,,,, 3 year deal which is peace of mind for both greener and club, such a consistent goalie and loyalty says alot about a player,, will end up being another steeler legend by the time he has done. Good luck greener,,,
Absolutely delighted that Greenfield has not only re-signed, but has committed for 3 more years! Lets face it, in the EIHL a 2 year deal is seen as long term with the nature of how teams change season upon season. Glad that the club hasn't dragged announcing him returning out either.
I also believe it shows how much the club has got things right behind the scenes.
Lets see if we can get him the odd night off though as it was a long season for him last season. Be great if there's another Morrone out there who wants to prove themselves with 15 or so games and then go elsewhere.
