Interesting,,,,adds a little bit more to the rivalry between us and them
I think it's a downgrade as far as coaching is concerned.

Not even in the top 6. Dampier, Blaisdell, Fox, Simon, Finnerty and Adams all had better records.

Thommo is an excellent coach, and whilst it didn't ultimately work and tailed off here, he also changed the way the club ran and put all the building blocks in place for Fox to takeover. He also identified Kirk and brought him through and aided him in getting drafted in both OHL and NHL.

He's literally just built up Odense from 8th to winners over the last few seasons.

Just because he didn't work out here, doesn't mean he's a poor coach.

I didn't say he was.

Still deserves more respect than he gets.

Genuine question. : would you take him back at Steelers if we needed a new coach?

Potentially. I don't think it's likely to ever be a possibility, but look at it this way;

- knows the league/brits
- has won every title available in the EIHL at least once, some with multiple teams
- has then won championships in other European leagues after leaving the EIHL and won a championship last season.
- big believer in developing British talent and helped Kirk to get over to the OHL. Also wanted the u20s league to happen to aid development.
- multiple players have said how good a coach he is

That CV screams a solid appointment for any team in the league. That doesn't mean to say he's better than everyone else or that he won't fall short, but if you offered me the above, or a rookie coach with no pedigree, I'm taking the above every time.

Thompson was a disaster-for us. I'd say he knew the league and Brits but he's what 6-8 years removed so I'm not sure that he still does.
Definitely successful before and after he came to us and I will watch with interest how it goes for him. With us and Belfast the alleged big spenders, the resurgent Panthers under Stewart, Clan looking to push on, it's not going to be easy for him.

He wouldn't have been with us for that last season if he didn't have Simms as a cheerleader, yet another example of Simms ego getting in the way of what's best for the club.
