Sad news.
RIP Scott Metcalfe

Very sad news.
Will never forget him taking off his shirt on New Year’s Eve to take on Corey Spring after him injuring Beraldo. That’s what I call sticking up for your team mates.
A great player and even better teammate.
RIP Scotty. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Condolences to his family and his friends.
He wasn't one of the more skilled players on that team, but he was very much a team player.
The fight mentioned above was one of the worst I've ever seen, but also lives long in the memory. I think by the time they'd both taken all their kit off, they'd nothing left in the tank and more or less fell into each other's arms.
RIP Scott Metcalfe....a player on the greatest ice hockey team I've ever seen in this country.
Regards
Richard

RIP Metter.
Awful news, and can only echo sentiments above. Team first guy, led the charge I believe at the infamous bench clearance in Nottingham. Wasn't it only when he turned to Blazer to say Dennis was getting hurt that Blazer let them go?

Only one season in Sheffield, but what a season to be remembered for. Some of the comments on other sites, particularly the Rochester team, reflect our thoughts on the guy.
He really did take a dislike to Mr Spring didn't he!. Team guy to the core by all accounts. A sad loss.

Very sad news, Scott was definitely one of those players that you want on your team. He’d run through brick walls for you.
He was part of one of if not the best ever teams to grace these shores and we were lucky to get to have him in that team for a season.
Condolences to Scott’s family and friends, thank you for sharing part of your life journey with us.

RIP Scotty, he may have been a Steeler for just the 1 season but what a season, Metcalfe & the entire 2000/01 team is (imo) still the best team the Steelers have ever iced together, it was an absolute joy to watch these guys bring it each weekend.
As been mentioned above, Metcalfe was a true team mate and stuck up for anybody on his team.
He'll be sadly missed by all & my thoughts go out to all his family & loved ones.
Once a Steeler always A Steeler.

What a fantastic player he was, up there with my all time favourites list...
when ever we discussed past Steers great teams between us he always got a mention an with the list of players we have had over the years thats a great tribute in itself..
Scott Metcalfe was hell of a player and character and for me 'A Scott Metcalfe' player is what we have been missing for some time now, even in our recent Grand Slam team...
