BREAKING News: Sheffield Steelers sign Swedish centre Andreas Valdix on a short-term deal to allow him to play in the Continental Cup this weekend.

The 36 year-old spent two seasons with the Steelers between 2016-18 playing 126 games for the club scoring 28 goals & 106 points.

With the current injury situation we felt it was important to try and bring in a couple players on one week try outs to give us some much needed depth for this weekend’s Continental Cup.
The IIHF granted us one of those spots to help our roster through this period which we appreciated.

Andreas Valdix was the player they have given us approval for and obviously is a player that isn’t a stranger to Sheffield. I know he had some very good seasons here and It will be nice for me to have an opportunity to see where his game is at now and how he looks in our group. I know he is a very smart player and also very responsible so think he will fit in nicely.
Your thoughts?

Well past his best, but should be able to do a job and if it means giving others a rest and avoiding injuries, I'm all for it.

I was a big Valdix fan when he was here under Paul Thompson.

He’s an experienced, reliable two-way centreman with a decent touch round the net when it comes to it, although he’s more of a playmaker in style.

I hope we give him good ice & responsibility as I believe he can do well with Fox’s fast, offensive wingers as a set-up guy.

Good move for this weekend but as a long term signing? Not so sure.

Sure his best years are behind him but maybe as the season progresses he may be more effective as the veteran guys generally get better as the games rack up.

I'm on the fence.

It's not going to hide the fact that other players still need to step up.

We'll see...

According to Fox, Valdix will be seeing plenty of ice time over the 3 games this weekend, so I'd imagine this is his chance to earn an EIHL spot with us or someone else?

I'd imagine we must be at least playing with the idea of keeping him for the year, otherwise I'm sure he could sign elsewhere in the EIHL ready for this weekend having only just been released by Cardiff.

Really enjoyed watching him play last time around - he is a smooth skating responsible center.

At worst hopefully he gives us some solidity and face-offs wins down the middle, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him put some decent points with us ---- if he does stay!

A good player, but only really seemed at his best when linking up with Levi and Dowdy. That line was 🔥🔥
He has a bit of extra mileage on him now but is a big help having an extra body for the weekend.

Think with that injury to Connolly, Valdix may just have got his longer deal.

He'll be part of the weekend for sure but he's lost so much pace!! there has to be fitter and faster players around than him but I'm pleased he's here in such short notice, best of luck to him.

The problem is, the way our league is set up we don’t have time to wait for the right pieces. We pretty much have to add any fit pro we can ASAP Image
