Nope.

yes I looked it up but i am sure in the dark recesses of my memory he said he was from planet Ford...

He was from a small planet in the vicinity of Betelgeuse, and not from Guildford as he had told Arthur.
He called himself Ford Prefect because his research had told him this was a popular name (but hadn't told him it was for a car).

So basically, Guildford is famous for having a blue plaque on a wall somewhere saying "Ford Prefect wasn't from here".
