Sheffield Steelers Sign - Matt Greenfield- Confirmed

Greenfield confirms that DeLuca’s reference on the Steelers and Sheffield was emphatic.
I messaged him and asked for his thoughts, the reply was immediate with the words you must go, you will love it there, the teams great the fans are great the buildings great, you have to go
I decided Sheffield was the place for me after talking with a few clubs, some of them in the UK as it happens. I wanted to go to a club that would compete and contend for a championship. I’m like everyone else I guess, I want to win.

Matt is a goalie who I had an eye on for the last two seasons. He is a young, motivated Netminder who wants to win.
He’s had a very solid first two years pro playing in Kansas City averaging a .915 sv% over two years.Matt is big and moves extremely well. He likes to be aggressive and is very competitive. He’s coming in to compete for starts and gives us an excellent goalie duo. We will play the goalie who has the hot hand and I love having some competition back there.

I have to say Matt looks every bit of a number one Goalie to me and having him and Ostlund fighting it out can only reap great rewards, I do honestly think If matt had been announced first we would all have been very impressed, I can only imagine he was announced second to maybe elevate some pressure from his relatively young shoulders at 27 and 6'1" he looks one to keep for sure,.
I would say he his over here to be firmly in the shop window for the bigger and better paid leagues but I am fine with that especially in only his 3rd year as a pro, young and motivated to do better can only be good for the team.
In turn that puts Oskar Ostlund on notice from the get go.. He will have Matt Greenfield putting pressure on him and from what ive seen from Oskar hasn't come for an easy ride either and wants to prove himself also..
Welcome to Sheffield Matt, I am very happy with this signing...

Fully agree Jay. Think Greenfield will get a fair share of the duties this year as he looks like he carries himself with so much confidence in his own game.
Not only does this benefit Fox, it massively benefits Ostlund, who could well use the support at the earlier stages settling in to his uni workload.
Happy with our 1-2 punch this year! Just ready for it to all come together on the ice now

Best 1-2 punch since O"Neil & Torcia imo, what a great signing this one is, I'm thrilled to pieces with this.
Welcome to Sheffield

Looks another good goalie signing, Greenfield and Ostlund looks a very good tandem on paper, obviously have to see how they both fit in and how the D and team adapt to playing with each of them but this certainly looks the best in net we've had since Fox has arrived.

The question we need to be asking is what happens next season. Ostlund has been all over the shop since 2013 and we aren’t exactly known for keeping a hold of goalies.

Well i dont agree it is really!
Ostlund has a 2 years University deal so, next season is all taken care of regarding Ostlund and Greenfield sounds as though he is keen to put in a shift for more than one season.. Stating that he would much rather get into a team that values him and he can work hard to improve his game, rather than me trading around any of the North American leagues... So I wont worry to much about next season when we haven't even started this one yet.

Welcome to Sheffield Matt.
Looks like a good signing for us and gives (hopefully) some great options in goal.
I'm not sure how well dual import netminders have done in the EIHL era silverware wise, but I believe that it's the way to go if both are of similar quality. Plus if one does get injured that we shouldn't have to worry about having to go into the players market place at the wrong time of the season etc.
If they're similar to Mr O'Neill and Mr Torchia, I'd be quite happy with a grand-slam thank your very much

This effectively completes our roster and I have to say I'm happy with the business we've done.
As I pointed out on another thread, there are quite a few risky signings, particularly in the forwards, and for me these will be the test of Fox's judgement.
The netminding tandem looks at least the equal of any other in the league and arguably the best.
In defence I like the look of all 3 new guys.
Up front we look to have plenty of depth and variety, with a few question marks over whether some of the players can capture form from the past.
I always like to look at our squad at the start of the season and ask myself if I think they have a realistic chance of winning the league. My response this season is quite definitely a 'yes'.
Now it's time to stop looking at our team on paper and see how they look on the ice.

I like the optimism in your post Doom but I don’t agree with the realistic chance this team can win the league answer. I think there’s just too many risky signings like you’ve emphasised and we’re banking on them all paying off, I can’t see that happening and one or two may fall below expectations. To me we look weak again down the middle compared to Belfast and Cardiff, we could of done with our last centre been of the calibre of Hammond as an example, disappointed we lost out on him. we’ve hopefully sorted the goaltending out although I cant seem to warm to Ostlund think it’s the part where he let in 10 goals for 57 shots in his 3 games last term also the lack of shutouts in his senior Career. Goal scoring looks good but I have us down below both Belfast and Nottingham although not by much for the latter and equal to Cardiff. I believe we will be a third or fourth placed team this season.
Of course this is all before a pucks dropped but many made a prediction of Belfast winning the league last season and I’m predicting that outcome again closely followed by Cardiff. Just my opinion and I’m quite often wrong

Can only wait and see.
