Aaron Fox has been dealing with news from North America that forward Mason Mitchell has picked up a lower body injury that will delay his arrival to Sheffield.
It's not the news you like to get a week before camp starts but this can happen.
Mason called about a week ago and said he got a lower body injury while on ice training. He went to get an MRI and both his Drs and ours after seeing the results agree it’s likely a 6-8 week injury before being able to take any contact. He will start year on IR (injury reserve) and rehab at home until he gets closer to be able to train with the team and then fly over
We will be bringing in Tomáš Pitule in on a 2 month deal with a team option to stay the whole year
He’s a big 2 way Forward who skates extremely well and plays a very responsible game. Tomas averaged a point per game in czech 2 in 20-21 so he has proved he can produce offensively as well. He played half the year in Czech Extraliga last year in a checking line role so will be a guy we can count on in those situations too. I believe he’s a natural centre who can play wing as well and is very excited to be here competing for a full year contract

Looks like a big body to fill the roster one can’t help but think this is all leading up to the re-signing of Deluca!

They should have got him on a full year ages ago, he's got more experience and plays very well, I don't understand why he wasn't one of the first choices, surely he would have been on their radar weeks ago if they just popped up and said "Yeah we've got this bloke for a couple months as a replacement, instantly" I'll never understand how business minds work. DDon't et me wrong, Mitchell IS decent, but I can't help but think of how I would run it, then I remember I've never set foot on an ice rink and I should shut my gob. I definitely should...

Aaron Fox has said if he works out he could be with us all season. That could be a positive both from the injury front and competition for starting places.

Welcome to Sheffield Tomáš.

I would hope that we are able to sign him full time. Has to be a risky strategy from a player's point of view only been offered a 2 month contract. Unless he's confident of being able to move around teams if required.

I said on the Mitchell thread that I don't believe he will play for us anyway now and it's just a way for him to buy some time, but I would hope that's an incorrect assumption on my side.

The injury list has certainly started early this season, I reckon you'll need a dedicated IR heading @Jayboy on the Roster side bar :D

It's a real shame about Mitchell, because I'm sure we all wanted to see what he'd bring to the table, but these things happen. Hopefully he'll get his opportunity in October/November.

The club have done well to react so quickly and bring in a replacement. In terms of scoring, I don't think there looks to be much between Mitchell and Pitule, although I think Mitchell would have offered a more physical edge.

I'm wondering how this will change Fox's thinking regarding the lines, because I assume it would make sense to start with the Czechs together.

I'm guessing:

Allen/Neumann/Ciampini

Pitule/Raska/Latal

Mosey/Connolly/Dowd

Phillips/Whistle/McNally

Although I could see McNally and Mosey swapping.

A well earned season contract for Pitule - Confirmed in the Star that he has signed for the season, wonder if this means a knock on effect for anyone else in terms of contract or injury?

Mosey and Ostlund currently injured so don't know how that affects things but we also added Kristo full time.

I was wondering just this morning what his status was. He had a slow start, but I think he's been a good addition and certainly wasn't standing for Storm's bully boy tactics at the weekend.

Pleased he's signed for the season.

I would expect it will be one of the (5 is it?) permitted roster changes through the season, Kristo being the 2nd one, once everyone is off IR.
