Thinking about what Greeny said. As far as I can remember it has always been 2 points for a win.
I think a more logical system would be 3 points for a regulation win and 2 points for an OT win. This would mean there was always 3 points in total to get for each game. The current system makes the total number of points in each game can be different (2 or 3). Surely also it is fair to award slightly less than the full number of points that is based on a few minutes rather than 60.

My first season was the 2000/01 Grand Slam, that was 3 points regulation win, 2 points OT win and 1 point OT loss.
I recall people working it out at the time on the original points system and there was very little change to the table.
I believe they reverted back the season after.

I feel sure there was a time where three points were awarded for a win but it must be going back a good while now. I tend to favour three for a regulation win, two for overtime/pens win, one for an overtime/pens loss, and nothing for a regulation loss. This way the accepted number of points are there to be played for, rather than magically producing an extra point out of the air as and when required.Bryan wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2024 10:34 amThinking about what Greeny said. It was back in the days of the ISL when there were 3 points for a win.
The EIHL has always been 2 points for a win, although there was probably a time when points were awarded differently in O/T. I think once upon a time you could have a tie after OT where each team got 1 point.

Certainly in the early ISL days there were draws. Remember (the only) 0-0 game I ever witnessed - Vs Ayr at the arena. Also remember it being a really good game!Doom wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2024 2:16 pmIt was back in the days of the ISL when there were 3 points for a win.

I like 3 points for a regulation win, 2 for OT win, and 1 for an OT loss. There should be an inducement/reward for winning a game in regulation as opposed to accepting at least 1 getting to OT and hoping to get extra point in OT.
