This just popped up on my twitter feed and I thought it may be interesting to some folks on here.

ASM Global have been announced to take over as the new operator of the Sheffield Arena

Full article here: https://sheffnews.com/news/new-world-le ... -announced

There is a statement at the bottom from Tony Smith with regards to the Steelers.

Is that the end of our relationship with Mr Stokes then?

Whilst these articles always read positive, you’ll have to forgive me for being cautious around announcements like this.

Really hope it continues to prove beneficial for the Steelers.

Tony Smith, Managing Director of the Sheffield Steelers, said:

“The Steelers are delighted to be working with ASM Global and excited to see where they take the Utilita Arena.

“Going forward, investment is key, and we have many ideas on how existing facilities can be improved to benefit our fans and the many visitors to the Arena. The future is going to be very bright and we look forward to working closely with our new operator.”

IF this is what TS has said, then perhaps we should be excited by the new venture but my problem is, I struggle to trust easily - actions speak louder than words.

So I guess it's a wait & see....

It sounds positive but all we can do is see how it works out. I imagine Tony has to put a positive spin on the situation as there is no point expressing negativity at this stage. I cannot imagine a large influx of money going in, but a good working relationship would do for me

My concern would be that we eventually built a decent relationship with SIV / Dom Stokes after a few early issues, if we can continue with the new owners where we left off with the previous owners then it's good, if not it could get a bit bumpy for a while. However we cannot change things, we just have to deal with whatever happens.

Cant imagine there to be much difference that we might notice, for the new people taking over i would imagine having the steelers based at the arena is a big plus for them in this day/age. so hopefully no issues to arise

Dom may get to stay if TUPE is applied.

What do you reckon the difference is now?

My thoughts:

- Doors are no longer opened 90 minutes before face off?
- Has the dedicated season ticket entrance gone?
- Increase in car park pricing
- Anything else?

As mentioned in my post above, I was always concerned when the new owner’s were announced. I would imagine Tony is monitoring what the average crowd numbers are very closely for next season. I wonder if he is still and I quote ‘delighted’ to be working with ASM Global?

Not good when they have steelers over a barrel so to speak,, it is going to affect people. Personally it does not me,, i dont use car park, i come 10 min before face off, i am not bothered what door i enter from and i dont buy food/drink there. But lots of people will be affected and certain factors may affect whether they attend or not. Just seems the way of the world at moment,,,,everybody trying to squeeze as much as they can from people

I wonder those bright idea it was to put the disabled tickets up for sale and not tell all the people who had disabled tickets last year or even for the last two years was that too complicated or could you not be bothered. I never got to know until I got an email 7:00 o'clock at night on the day they'd all been sold out brilliant.
I put this question to customers services at the Arena over a week ago still waiting for a reply
I would be very surprised if you ever get one.. the new arena management seem to have made the decision, that its customers are cash cows and customer relations is a dirty word..

The arena had made massive improvements in past seasons in this area prier to the latest takeover... :slaphead:

All this feels like its only the starts of a slippery slope downwards, it seems to me and many others observing the unwanted changes, that ASM Global are in this for a quick profit and have little or no concern for the actual customers or the product they themselves provide or the finished product its customers will struggle to provide... Personally I believe this is just the beginning of the price rises...
