The IHUK release Coronavirus statement:

Ice Hockey UK have released the following statement regarding the ongoing Coronavirus situation.
In light of the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) situation Ice Hockey UK, Scottish Ice Hockey and the English Ice Hockey Association are following the situation on an ongoing basis.
We are closely monitoring the advice from health and government agencies and ask our that our members and participants also keep up-to-speed with the latest information via the following links:

We ask everyone to take care of their health and protect others by doing the following:

    • Wash your hands frequently and regularly

    • Refrain from unnecessary contact, if possible – e.g. shaking hands and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

    • If you experience any symptoms, e.g., difficulty breathing, cough and fever, seek medical advice from NHS 111. Don’t return to action until you are given the all-clear.

    • Throw away any tissue after use, to prevent contamination – ‘Catch It, Bin It, Kill It’

    • Don’t share drinks from the same bottle or glass

    • Clean and disinfect your equipment

    • Implement good hygiene, thus mitigating your risk of catching the virus

    • Avoid travel to any countries where government warnings are in place

From this weekend we recommend that players refrain from shaking hands with the officials or each other before or after the game. In post-game it will be acceptable for the teams to exchange gloved ‘fist-bump’ in lieu of the traditional handshake.

The ice hockey associations are monitoring the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) situation and scheduled league play. The health of our participants and fans is of great importance to us. We will update further if the condition worsens or if there is any government action affecting sport.

I can see the POFW being cancelled. Then what would happen to the league? Without that weekend the league would lose basically it's operating funds for the following year.

Perhaps start next season with the Play Offs and ditch the Cup for that season. Not ideal but ....

I guess it depends on if and when restrictions are brought into place, also the type of restrictions imposed. One suggestion has been to have gatherings with a maximum of 5000 people, isn’t that about the capacity of the NIC?

A second thought I’ve had is, if the restrictions are more severe, say somewhere in the 2-3000 region, would it be logistically possible at this late stage to move the finals to either Cardiff or Glasgow? I know it’s a long shot, but at least it would prevent a total loss of income for the league.

Everybody getting a bit ahead of themselves, latest information says you are more likely to catch something in the local pub than at a large gathering! but things will change day by day, let's not get panicky!!
There's loads of major sporting events in the next few months, mainly the worlds in Switzerland during may, but we aren't there yet so let's be sensible about this situation.

The worlds in Switzerland will probably not go a head.

France and other countries are banning events with more than 3000 people.

The more countries that take this sort of action the more the UK will be pressured into following. Especially as our cases rise.

The Swiss leagues are already playing behind closed doors, and with this to carry on into the summer months I can't see the Worlds happening!

Should common sense be used, both the Play-Off Weekend and the Worlds will go ahead as planned, with refunds being offered to those within the at-risk categories. However, common sense rarely prevails these days as it is, and given the media hysteria over this, I fear both will get pulled and the Play-Off Weekend going in particular really puts the league up brown creek without a paddle!

I think the UK will implement restrictions on events shortly. Although the London underground is probably the best place for Coronavirus to live in the country.

It's probably more likely that Coronavirus would catch something from the London Underground. Surprised that Nottingham aren't already playing behind closed doors. have they even heard of Soap down there?

In all seriousness the playoffs may survive as it depends on how fast things spread before restrictions come into force.

Seen fans from other teams (Nottingham and Cardiff particularly) saying apparently that they were staggered that we didn't shake hands at the end of the game last night (Friday).

Have they not read that IHUK statement? Whilst it's normal protocol to do the handshake, I'm sure IHUK are taking no chances and for once I'm with them on that.
