I know its not hockey and I know its not particularly pleasant as a topic or subject. But I thought it work making an off topic thread.

If anyone has Advice, facts and any other useful info to share about our present difficult situation then lets discuss it here..
If anyone needs anything in particular, if any help anyone of us can help with or lets face it just a place to talk and discuss then as a community or group of friends linked together and often all in the same building at the same time up till recently then lets talk about it here.

If you've seen any relevant news or info or any that any of us feel may help each other out, then this is the thread... Some of our friends may feel alone at a time of isolation and lets face it the hockey chat will probably be at a minimum right now...
So feel free to vent, sound off or even praise as you see fit and lets all prove that as a group of fans we have more than just hockey in common...

Well where I live and work the government advice has not really been implemented at all.

I can work from home, but my company hasn’t yet introduced that as per the advice. It is close though.

I’m out for Mother’s Day at a local restaurant, who have emailed and said it’s very much business as usual despite government advice.

I’ve just come back from my local leisure centre who also (at the moment) have no intention of closing.

Make of all that as you will.

Drove down Abbeydale Road and London Road on my way home earlier and it was very quiet, even though it is midweek it is usually busy.

Well were are very much into the keeping as safe as possible and isolating,as some of you may know I am an Adult Cystic Fibrosis suffer and all that entails, but at the worst possible moment for us we still have to continue our day job (both of us are local authorities Foster Carers) , and all this week and into next week we are seeing our little baby cub (baby Girl some of you have met) on to adoption, which basically involves Social Workers and Adoptive parents coming to our house every day during the process...

Not the best outcome but nothing else is possible to be able to let the little girl transition smoothly... Its such a hard and emotional time at the best of times, and one we really find hard! Its even harder now especially has the schools have closed they already have 3 children of their own, that now are not able to be at school during the process and of course we have our own Sam and Libby at home now to! :peek:

So wish us good luck, it all starts today... I only hope they are sensible and quickly adapt to the hand washing and routine in the house we have already put in place..

Coming home tomorrow from Spain,I hope. The lock down here in Tenerife is very severe. Only food shops open and they have distanced queues outside, only one person per family allowed in . No cafes or restaurants or entertainments open and all hotels closed from Tuesday. Schools closed and police on motorbikes patrolling the streets. I saw one jogger stopped and told to go home. You can only go out if shopping for food. I think chemists are open.
All airports closed apart from repatriation flights but that will stop next Tuesday too. Passenger ships and ferries no longer running and you can't hire a boat , if you wanted to . ( Its a bit too far to row to uk for us)
All beaches roped off and only one person allowed in a van or lorry delivering food or doing service jobs.
Going to be a lot of unemployment as the main industry is tourism. I hope these precautions are never necessary back home ,but fear they may be.
Good luck everyone, we may need to import the famous Steelers “Dunkirk “ spirit ! :thumb:

Found on Twitter:

HMRC have just set up a help line specifically for the self employed and businesses who will be struggling now.

The Coronavirus helpline : 0300 456 3565

Apparently they will give you advice on your tax and any benefits you can claim for.

I know this is going to be difficult for each and everyone. As you know this virus is not bacterial so is not targeting the gut. It is a viral infection affecting the upper tract and lungs. Particulary nasty as it is 5_10 times more contagious than influenza. That all said we don't need to panic. Good hygiene and plenty of hand washing is the order of the day. Wash before leaving the house wash upon return. Keep up cleaning door handles, worktops etc. It is easily spread through droplets secreted from one human to another, so social distancing will help. Bars and resteraunts are not really the places to be as no matter how much cleaning, there will still be places, handrails etc, that others will touch between cleans. Simple common sense and awareness of your environment will help also.
For those that don't know me. In a passed life my day job was in pharmacy and particularly production of drugs for post op., chemotherapy regimes and end of life diamorph pumps to name but a few. I was working when the last influenza outbreak struck and believe me everyone within the NHS will be working long and hard to overcome the challenges. So any help we can give then not to go and spread this virus about would be helpful, to you, your loved ones, the elderly and vulnerable plus the medical clinicians. Stay safe people.

Best advice I can offer just now:

Check round by phoning your friends/family and immediate neighbours, see who can do what for anyone that has to fully self-isolate. (I’m on call for 3 people in that situation to get/drop-off their shopping, and the like.)

Wash hands before/after toilet, or handling food. Clean things like chopping boards daily, and also before/after placing any fresh food on it.

Current medical understanding is close contact of 15 minutes and more will pass the virus on. So brief contact to drop things off, or a quick welfare check can still be done safely. If in doubt, stay at least 2 meters away.

Even if you’re low/no risk to anything more than mild symptoms, PLEASE keep your social contact to a minimum anyway. So not to pass it onto someone who will get seriously ill from it, or who cares for someone that would.

Stay safe everyone!
