Yes, on a club by club basis Steelers and Panthers would contribute far more than Fife for example.

However, at an individual basis, as a Fife fan, for example, I would contribute equally with a Steelers fan, at least giving the Fife fan more equality than the club's budgets.

I know similar issues have been raised in the past, yet when the league dropped for a short time to seven teams I believe the risk of playing the same clubs more frequently was also complained about.

I guess it depends on whether you think the big, richer club should contribute more than a smaller, poorer club.

Maybe in an ideal world we would have ten teams with the same budgets giving an equal playing field - but that can never happen.

I certianly don't dismiss the idea out of hand.. I guarantee the issue would arise of where the extra money is spent unless it could be somehow ring-fenced for a particular need...

I also guarantee more than one club would argue that the smaller clubs increase Less and the bigger clubs increase more to reflect the normal price if thier season tickets... And not to drive already cashed strapped fans away altogether, there perception being that arena teams can justify the price increase and lowly rink teams that struggle with bums on seats can't...

You are probably right as I don't know what other funding the league receives from each club other than Play Off revenue?

Does each club fund the league as well at the start of the season?

I don't know how you would go about finding the total league revenue?

On checking walk up adult ticket prices at smaller clubs I can see Flyers £18, Blaze £18, Stars £20.

I'm not sure what a similar Steelers ticket costs but I think it is much the same.

So the smaller clubs with smaller crowds and revenue charge similar ticket prices to a big club.

If Flyers price was £12 then I realise 50p is a bigger change than to Steelers £18, but this doesn't seem to be the case.

The fact that Steelers and Panthers are bigger clubs doesn't mean that one of their fan's annual income must be bigger than a fan of Flyers income?

My thought was simply that all the 50p amounts (as an example) would go directly to the league to improve their organisation, rather than to each club.

I also realise I know nothing about running a business and as the EIHL are still going after 17 years they must be doing an awful lot right!

Anyhow, it was just a thought and I'll start to anticipate next season now!

I think the idea had merit, and plenty off it... Just not sure it would be workable, to be fair it would have to be guaranteed to go to a certain project and this is where it would break down..

The issue of funding within the EIHL has been rumbling on for many years now.

It has currently become more serious due to the current season curtailment.

Each year at around this time we hear that next year's funding depends heavily on the Play-Offs weekend.

Forget about Lottery fund help as from what I understand many other sports have benefited from large funding over the years, but what is arguably the most exciting, family friendly sport never has done and maybe never will do.

Forget about hoped for TV revenue. After some interest from Premier Sports and thankfully ongoing interest from Free Sports it seems unlikely that any other media revenues will appear.

So why not levy a small supplement on every ticket next year to help fund officials ( training of, etc) and all other costs.

Many fans will always complain about any extra charge while at the same time complaining about the quality of officials, etc - who officiate each game for a small amount while having a full time job as well.

For example if Steelers average attendance is 6,000 then a 50p supplement over 30 home games would raise £90,000 for the EIHL.

This would provide a regular monthly income for the league with very little admin.

No-one wants ticket prices to go up I know but from what I have seen ice hockey prices, for a superior product, compare very favourably with football.

Any thoughts?

The league needs to be self sufficient and fund it'self not rely on the fans.

Fans are there to fund their respective clubs via ticket, merchandise sales etc. We're not here to help the league out financially.

We keep getting told the ice hockey ice better than ever, some even say better than the ISL (Todd Kelman). So the ISL as a league had a title sponsor of Sekonda. If the hockey is a good as many make out the EIHL should be thriving?

Agreed... It certainly shouldn't need subsidising by the fans....v
