I wish I understood the modern metrics, I'm so old!! I use my eyes and take into account +/- when assessing players. +/-always tends to be decent if on a winning team and vice versa if losing!
I've always found +/- a decent way of assessing players. It's far from a precise science, but over time I would say there's been a lot more hits than misses in terms of judging a player before I've seen them.paul johnston wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2024 5:58 pmI wish I understood the modern metrics, I'm so old!! Apparently there's another Steelers signing tomorrow....I hope he has good +/-

Not really a rumour, but with Sauce now confirmed, what's the feeling on possible other returnees?
Gut feel says Greenfield and Ciampini are done deals, and for some reason I think Watling is also signed. I think Balmas has got a time limited out for certain leagues but date may have now passed. I also think Whistle and Jones are probably signed up since I think Fox would have already been out in the market for replacements.
The rest I'm not sure on. If I had to pick 3 and leave the rest, I'd say Diffley, Juusola and Allen would be the ones I'd really want, although tough as Vallerand has been an excellent player and I really like Josh Nicholls intelligence and habit of scoring some key goals. Vinnell and Harper I suspect want to try and push for more minutes elsewhere but you never know. Harper could potentially be a Neumann replacement, but hard to say as came in at an awkward time when the rest of the team well drilled in their systems, and then didn't get the game time when injuries cleared up.

Sounds a good shout overall,,,,, fingers crossed many have signed again and are being announced slowly over a period of time, never going to announce several in one go. Really hope greenfield is back,,,,,do like it when a team is built around a top notch defence/netminding,,,,, keeper certainly can be a game winnerginger wrote: ↑Sat Jun 15, 2024 2:29 pmNot really a rumour, but with Sauce now confirmed, what's the feeling on possible other returnees?

Heard Betker and Leavens might not be the only ex Innsbruck players we are looking at. No names mentioned but a few potentials I think might be in the running.

Yogan and Dostie I'd definitely take. Magwood less sure on but scored well before last year so could just have been not settling in Sweden

Anyone who follows my socials knows i am a HUGE Dostie fan and have advocated for him over here for the last 2 years, so if this was to come to fruition, then i'd be first in line for his jersey!ginger wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2024 11:45 amHeard Betker and Leavens might not be the only ex Innsbruck players we are looking at. Yogan i feel will get offered big money elsewhere given his recent performances, but would 100% snap your hand off if he was open to Sheffield (MBA maybe??)
Not heard anything on Magwood, as the name i'd heard was Max Gerlach. https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/2 ... ax-gerlach - Who for me, is a more "polished" version of Neumann. Very similar junior numbers, but Gerlach came straight to Europe and did the business.

I did wonder about Gerlach too. Agree he looks very much in the Neumann mould. At 32 I don't necessarily think Yogan is going to get a big payday, unless in DEL2 again, which is why with an MBa I think he could be a targetteeLIST wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2024 11:44 amAnyone who follows my socials knows i am a HUGE Dostie fan and have advocated for him over here for the last 2 years, so if this was to come to fruition, then i'd be first in line for his jersey!ginger wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2024 11:45 amHeard Betker and Leavens might not be the only ex Innsbruck players we are looking at. Given the teaser sent out by the club it looks like Juusola may be returning, delighted if correct, he was one of those gambles last season, a player who clearly had bags of talent but (from memory) had a poor preceding season only to show how good he was with us.

100% this.....mark wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 10:02 amGiven the teaser sent out by the club it looks like Juusola may be returning, delighted if correct, he was one of those gambles last season, a player who clearly had bags of talent but (from memory) had a poor preceding season only to show how good he was with us.
I have to say, after the season this guy has just had, I'm surprised he hasn't gone back to Europe.
Balmas next please Foxy....
Although it was at a higher level, it was 0 goals in over 30 games. My guess is that he dropped down to our level to rebuild his confidence and enjoy his hockey again as one of the main men.mark wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 10:02 amGiven the teaser sent out by the club it looks like Juusola may be returning, delighted if correct, he was one of those gambles last season, a player who clearly had bags of talent but (from memory) had a poor preceding season only to show how good he was with us.
It was obvious he really enjoyed himself last season, but I did wonder if a higher level team would come in for him.
A couple of years ago he was joint 3rd top scorer on a Finnish Liiga side and was top on the +/- (sorry Ginger), which takes some doing.
I'm delighted to see him back, not only is he a top player, but his work ethic is fantastic.
