2 points in the bag,,,gradually getting closer to cardiff with these games in hand wins,,,good nights work,,,,also cardiff lose in cup so not looking too good for them at moment
Belfast have virtually had a bye through to the Challenge cup next round. Seems an odd arrangement. Cardiff didn’t look great against us last weekend so I’m not surprised they’re struggling although their league form would seem better.

Tonight’s game was a bit dull really but even though we had to come from behind twice I wasn’t worried at any time.

Totally agree. The chap sitting next to me was a substitute for the usual season ticket holders. It was only his second ever hockey game. I did a bit of explaining for him, the usual stuff, offside and icing etc. In the second interval he asked me if I was confident. I said yes they’ll score 3 with the last being an ENG. At the end he asked how I knew that. I said it was easy because the always do.

I wasn't at the game tonight, so can only comment on the stats.

Whilst it appears we made hard work of it, it's another win in the bag....a good habit.

Tracking on the EIHL website had us at over 80% to win, which suggests we were creating far more good chances. It also had us over 80% against Cardiff on Saturday, which is very unusual against a title rival and shows how well we played.

Regarding a couple of comments above relating to other games. I believe Cardiff have quite a few imports missing at the moment, which might explain some of their sketchy performances. Realistically they're probably in a dog fight with Manchester and Coventry for that 3rd spot, although they can still catch Nottingham and ourselves.

It would be good to beat them in regulation on Sunday to make it a little bit more difficult for them to qualify.

In the league we're now only 4 points behind Cardiff, but they have 3 games before we play again so we could find ourselves 10 points behind.

I noticed the other day that Greenfield is at 91% in the league and below that in the CC. That's a big drop off from around 93% last season. Is it a case of his form dipping and/or those in front of him not doing as good a job? My guess would be a bit of both.

Finally a huge praise to the management......9,000+ on a Wednesday night against Fife is incredible.

Regards

My take is that he's played too many games in quick succession. Plus he has zero competition for his place.

When Morrone was here he'd already played a number of games that Greenfield has played this season and he did very well in them, so for me, that creates healthy competition for the starting goalie. Greenfield would have always been first choice for the bigger games, but he would have known that Tony was ready to go and likely to play well in any game he was picked. That's not the case so far this season.

I've no concerns in Greenfield's save percentage, but do have a concern 2 or 3 months further down the line we he's played probably 99% of our games. Both Cardiff and Belfast are rotating their goalies which only becomes a benefit IMO when the season gets towards the business end.

No doubt whatsoever we need an effective backup goalie thats for sure, the thing concerning me is that Marco De-Filippo doesn't seem to be that guy.. Fox is not stupid, he knows what he is doing and why and going forward what needs to happen. I only wish we did... it all points to a problem with Filippo..
Someone with tape over the jerseys name ice as backup tonight, i didn't catch who it was! ?

The game sheet had Warburton as the backup. I thought he had his own shirt though?

It's a shame for De-Fillippo, I was looking forward to seeing him play a few games, unless he's injured of course, but if he was, I'd expect we'd hear that through the post game podcasts etc. Guess we were very lucky with Morrone last year.

If if wasn't for Greenfield, I don't think many of us would have been too upset seeing him as our number one in seasons past.

Can't we offer Shane Owen the back up. Spot! A sound and talented goalie getting mainly L's against his name at the moment, promise him 10 or so games in the reminder of the Season (CC and selected league games) and he will still have more wins that he currently looks like achieving at Fife..

Whatever was the idea of those practice jerseys? We thought they must be topical and intended to look like ``the awful Donald Trump with that ridiculous red tie. Any other suggestions?
