Steelers, Nottingham, Coventry & Manchester to play tournament in April at NIC.

Be interesting to see how the roster shapes up, not expecting typical EIHL standard recruitment for this but exciting all the same!

Seems to be some sort of Brit draft so we may se me some interesting moves.

Pete Spencer interview with Tony Smith on Steelers website:-

Says there'll be up to 8 imports the rest will be Brits.
Teams have put 20 Brits between them on reserve to their roster e.g. Jonathan Philips to Steelers
Rest of roster to be made up of Brits drafted from Pete Russell's long list of GB players and any others willing to be drafted
Sport England have put some funding in - no details given
Will play in Nottingham to make it Covid secure
No detail of streaming price etc. yet

Some good news at last!

Looking forward to seeing how this pans out.

Will also be interested to see how the streaming costs will work out.

By the looks of the current hockey scene, we’ll be recruiting imports from two main areas:

- Skilled free agents who have played little to no hockey this year but are still “active” players

- Raiding European sides who are out of the playoffs.

Will be interesting to see our strategy. Do we get ringers in (like Nottingham probably will) who will be good but we can’t hope to keep. Or do we add players who we could retain if they are any good.

DRAFT ORDER RELEASED (Mon 7pm)

1. Manchester
2. Nottingham
3. Coventry
4. Sheffield

Order then reversed (e.g. we get 4th & 5th pick, Storm 1st, 8th & 9th etc.)

I hope all 4 teams go with the Ringers option. the standard needs to be as high as possible to give the GB guys the best workout

In terms of Brits available in the Draft I think the following higher tier guys are available:

Liam Kirk, Ben Bowns, Robert Farmer, Ciaran Long, Josh Batch, Matt Myers, Thomas Murdy, Mark Richardson, Lewis Hook, Stephen Murphy, Paul Swindlehurst*, Stephen Lee, Mike Will, Ben Davies, Owen Griffiths, Josh Waller, Travis Ehrhardt, Craig Moore, Craig Peacock, Jack Musil, Matt Haywood, Jordan Cownie, Craig Garrigan, Jordan Buesa.

There isn’t a ton of depth beyond the first 2/3 rounds, we’ll definitely see some young prospects involved (Brown, Graham??) and possibly some NIHL guys too.

Ben O’Connor has ruled himself out of the series for personal reasons.
