Guildford it is in the QF.
Despite us being higher in the league, I make Guildford the favourites.
Over the last 15 games they have 24 points out of 30. In the same period we have 17 points out of 30.
Guildford are currently the hot team in the league, whilst we look devoid of confidence and are playing poorly.
We do have a decent record against them though, so hopefully we can maintain that.
We really need to be bringing them back to the arena with no more than a 1 goal deficit.

Fox is a better Coach and GM for the Steelers than Thompson was, and conducts himself consistently better. That's doesn't make Thompson a bad Coach, it doesn't have to be 1 extreme or the other. Credit to Cardiff for their 2nd place finish this season. You wouldn't swap Coaches with them though.

Can someone please explain why we're ranked 4th and not 3rd?

At the end of the game, with both ours and Nottingham's results present the EIHL site definitely had us in 3rd for a while, then it changed to 4th. You'd assume their stats system is already coded with the various tie-breaker rules, so this is odd.
I watched every post-match interview during the PT era and that's not my memory of it at all. I do remember certain vocal fans being VERY quick to stick the boot in though, PT suffering from perceived Simms adjacency no doubt. To be honest if I felt like Thommo looked that season then I'd have been antagonistic towards the fanbase too.
I believe his record in Odense shows this is objectively untrue.
This is true, good times. However, playing devils advocate here, the CHL was a zero-pressure low expectation skirmish, and one which probably cost us the league title that year. We seem to have struggled to muster the same CHL spirit into high-stakes playoff and CC performances in recent years.

Because all the initial tie-breakers are equal between us and Notts, I believe it comes down to the head to head between the two teams and they had the better of our series.Ethels Dad wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2026 9:42 pmCan someone please explain why we're ranked 4th and not 3rd?

Thommo v Fox may be a subject of more discussion later but I do wonder why Nottingham ranked above us. Not that I think it should matter.
If we’ve got the determination and spirit to get to the p o weekend we will.

So you don't remember it but agree you'd have been antagonistic towards the fanbase too ?,Clear The Zone wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2026 9:51 pm

One championship , he won many more earlier in his career, not much afterwards which makes your statement incorrect.Clear The Zone wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2026 9:51 pmI believe his record in Odense shows this is objectively untrue.

Thanks for that Doom, I couldn't find any official rules about tie-breaking. I assume that neither could the Elite League website contributor who this morning wrote: "Sheffield Steelers will finish third if they better Nottingham's result against Cardiff."Doom wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2026 9:57 pmBecause all the initial tie-breakers are equal between us and Notts, I believe it comes down to the head to head between the two teams and they had the better of our series.Ethels Dad wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2026 9:42 pmCan someone please explain why we're ranked 4th and not 3rd?

I had tried typing "tie-breaking" into the EL website search bar, naively expecting that would find the page on tie-breaking - what an idiot!
