Yes I think you’re right, it has stopped. A shame really in my opinion.
My take on welcoming players back is slightly different.steeler pete wrote: ↑Wed Oct 05, 2022 10:13 amYes I think you’re right, it has stopped. A shame really in my opinion.
I think the arena should be a difficult place for an away team to come and play. None of this nicely clapping for the players and staff of so and so.
I don't want opposing players and staff to look forward to coming to the arena.
However, for the longer serving players who have made a significant contribution over the years, I would make an exception on welcoming back.
DeLuca? Who? No thanks.

We can’t welcome back former players but we’re expected to “welcome the players, fans, staff of the <insert team>” before games
Why do we do that btw? Let’s warm welcome another team into our building. Bizzare

I believe you can welcome a teams fans to our building and then make the team and players as unwanted and downright unwelcome as possible all at the same time..
Starting with the attitude on the ice... All this skating around with their flag crap takes the welcome to bloody far. I have never seen anyone skate around with our flag!
I used to think I was lucky to get out of the old lower parliament Street in one piece....

Oh I don’t join in on welcoming any team or fans at the beginning of a game. I do make an exception for the first time a long serving former player lines up and acknowledge them as a respected former Steeler.
However once the puck drops they’re like any other opposition player.
