May be my imagination and poor memory but was Eberle not one of the few good signings made by Thompson?

Eberle was a Thompson signing, in the year that it all fully came unstuck (year prior to Fox joining). He's a interesting one, because he did not score well at all during that year, but then improved exponentially the next.
Might be a lesson in there re: some players from this year, and why if we brought back Neumann/Allen/Ciampini, I wouldn't be too unhappy. I think we had a few others who were the reason we didn't end up with a trophy.

So the one Steeler type player I credited Fox for signing, wasn't actually a Fox signing
The difference between Eberle and Ciampini/Allen is age.
Eberle is still in his 20's and developing, Ciampini and Allen are both clearly on the decline, so I'm not convinced a year learning about our league will see an improvement. That's why I've put down Neumann as the only import forward I'd like back, because he is still young and likely to improve.
I'd love to see Eberle come back, because he's the type of player I like.....small in stature, but big in heart.
We could also benefit from Eberle's knowledge of the ECHL last season, because he'll be able to pass on which players impressed him and why.

I agree with Doom on the subject of contacts within North America both Cardiff with their Owners with Todd Kelman also Thornton and Keefe at Belfast, both teams have access to contacts and players that we don’t .I can imagine Keefe would only after give his brother a ring and the scouts for Toronto and their affiliates would be recommending and contacting players at our level on his behalf.
