Well brian I couldn't disagree more, panthers are definitely weaker than last year,I thought in general we were the better team and deserved the win in the end,I think we work the puck in much better this year not much dump and chase,I think that not all the new players are making enough impact yet but I'm prepared to give them a bit more time to settle in and if they do I think we have the making of a pretty impressive team. As for the icing they are generally due to a slightly wayward pass rather than dumping it because we are under pressure. It's all about opinions but each week I am feeling more positive but there is a long way to go and fingers crossed we keep progressing.

I thought the first period was extremely cagey and verging on a bit boring, only because neither team wanted to give much up.

Then it came alive. Might not have been overly full of quality but to equal teams going head to head.

I throughly enjoyed it.

One point from me and I’m still very new to hockey, but it appears we get smashed a lot, but don’t tend to do that to the opposition and let them get away with it. Could do with giving it back a bit, we seem soft.

On the injured girl, she cut her eyebrow badly. It was right in front of us. Then a girl who was helping had a seizure. So not great, but I believe (info passed from a friend) they’re both going to be ok.

We were slightly off the pace, panthers were slightly better for most of that game. When we skated harder/raised our tempo, played with a bit more physicality, we were better for it. The last 8-10 mins we were good.
Don't agree at all with Fox's opinion of the periods/duration of liking our game.
I thought the line changes worked well although would still think of swapping Balmas and Archie sides around.
Pp needs tons of work despite the Balmas goal.
Again IBN and Steele were benched. It's gonna be a tough season for the 34-38 yr old legs in our team that's for sure.

Again we had 4-5 opportunities where an extra pass was made rather than a SOG taken. The glaring example of this was the Shorthanded chance Juusola and Gettinger created. Hopefully we won't be seeing this all season.

Unfortunately the medical issue in the crowd meant I missed the last 10 and OT to go and catch my tram. I hope everybody involved is OK.

On the 50 minutes I did see, I thought it was a fairly even game which could have gone either way. I can't see there being much between either team this season.

The game lacked physicality and any sort of edge, but I've come to expect that now, so I can't say it disappoints me too much.

I think our penalty kill is going to be very good again this season and i can see us getting quite a few short handed goals.

I reserve judgement on the powerplay. I only saw the first one and that wasn't particularly inspiring.

Interesting results around the league. Guildford hammering Cardiff maybe puts our win down there into perspective....it was a very good effort.

I fear for Dundee this season. They look a very poor team and I can see it being a difficult season for them and the league.

6 points out of 6 for us and a 3 point lead at the top of our CC group, that's not to be sniffed at. Still a long way to go, but we are putting ourselves in a decent position to qualify.

Regards

Steele had 9 minutes of ice time and IBN had about 8.5. Both had more ice time than Betteridge, Kelsall and Larkin for Nottingham.

Every coach shortens the bench when chasing a game (which we were for about 50% of the game), and in Nottinghams case, even when not.

I know we all want to see young Brits do well and get ice time but given the minutes both got, it's not like they've just rode the pine all game. There's also the fact that neither are PP/PK - automatically will cut their minutes down due to that.

As for the game, I thought it was typical of an early season game between 2 good teams still trying to get fully in to their groove and not give away too much. Some good bits of play and some poor bits both ways. 2nd period onwards would have given us the edge (apart from a horrible 3 minutes when Notts scored twice). Thought Gettinger was unlucky on the SH chance - brilliant interception, thought Juusola should have taken the shot and when he did get the pass back it was a bobbling puck. Also huge blocked shot which I think he only had a couple of shifts after. Whilst his offensive game hasn't really arrived yet, he's been good defensively.

Rockwood much better on draws (7/11 according to league site) - in fact overall much better on draws last night generally. Rockwood's play on the OT winner was lovely too. Skating line pushed the D too deep and then Tait gets the space he needs.

Game On

First game i have seen this season and general impression to me is ,,,,,we are where we were,,,,,, nothing much has changed, a typical fox team of a lot of huffing and puffing on the ice with not much end result and nothing in the physicality department [yes we won] but nothing there what excited me and i cannot see really where our goals are going to come from . Apart from balmass and juusola nobody caught my eye and several players made me think what do they bring to the team,,,,,, early days yet but cannot see much changing and panthers were no better,,, so looks like league in general as we know standard wise getting no better

Well I enjoyed it. I felt it was much faster than the previous games and a bit frantic with each side trying to get the upper hand which led to a few mistakes. Both keepers played well and we were a bit fortunate that the refs couldn't see our players stick lift on the 2+2 penalty , even on the VAR ! Our player clearly lifted the panthers stick which then hit our player in the face.
I think we then scored on the PP.
I was pleased to see that physically we saw the game out where as Panthers were wilting in the last ten minutes.
Not much between these teams I feel , bar injuries it's going to be nip and tuck all season. Whether Belfast are a class above remains to be seen .
Not sure about the wisdom in keeping playing the national anthem. Panthers are disrespecting it by shouting , “ We hate Steelers “ , half way through and Tait and Cormier are disrespecting it by leaving the line up before the last line is played.
You wouldn't get away with that in America !

Looking at Tracking, it clearly shows Panthers doing twice as well as Steelers for the whole of the first, and of course they scored. The rest of the game shows as scrappy and fairly even with neither side doing better. It was not until the final minutes of the game that Steelers achieved any superiority. We then managed the 3 on 3 better, which as we know is a totally different kind of game.

Re Stucker: he’s not listed on the Elite League site “official” (?) roster page, yet players such as Jordan O'Brien and Emil Oksanen are.

Has Stucker not been registered?

Out of curiosity were you at the game Bryan? , panthers started a bit better than us but nothing special, and just to let you know they didn't score. Then from halfway through the first for most of the rest of the game we were the better team and they actually went in front against the run of play.
