So after another loss at home after a 3-0 lead. Not sure how anyone can justify that Fox is an upgrade from PT at the moment.
We lost to Fife………Fife. Belfast will beat them in the final playing in slippers.
It’s crunch time. Not sure we’re up to it.
Belfast just smashed Guildford 6-1 in their own barn. We can’t beat Fife at 3-0 up at home.

1 trophy down (no longer in contention) 2 trophies left.
I don't think we'll win the league as I think Belfast have hit their stride at the perfect time and the playoffs is a lottery.
If we don't win a Trophy this season then I don't see an argument for Fox to stay in his job at the Sheffield Steelers.

I've read over on SM today that in the era of Tony Smiths ownership we have won only 5 trophies compared to Cardiff 7, Belfast 7 and Nottingham 8!!
Now surely that has got to sting Tony hasn't it?

2 things I've been saying for a few years.
1. The hockey is secondary to money through the club.
2. (More of a theory) recruitment is done by committee as since Adams it's followed the same path with a lack of a physical presence and even when we sign someone they seem to be neutered.

Of course it should, but if we are packing them in and the club is profitable, does it?
The fear is that we are becoming another Nottingham, where the lack of trophies seems to bother only a minority of fans.

Without the money coming through the club, we have no club, simple... So to me, more power to them for it, the bigger budgets, extra players, new jumbotron and extra staff and fitness coach etc have to be paid for somehow and all those make our club better..
I don't find it hard to say no to 50/50 etc when I can't afford it, and believe me we has a family have plowed plenty of our hard earn money into the club over the years.!
For me it's completely down to the coach and mentality and philosophy of the owners as to how we play and our ambition to win..
Time will tell if Tony is happy with Aaron Fox at the moment, evidence would suggest he isn't, the club bringing money on will be dependent on us winning, it always has..

It seems that way to be fair, and can see why people may think that but I simply dont accept it to be the whole story...paul johnston wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2023 11:36 pmSteelers have accepted being second best as long as the money comes in and the off ice entertainment is keeping fans happy. Its as simple as that.
I've know Tony for a long time (way before he bought the club) and its simply not the guy i know, he NEVER settles for second best in anything he does ever.. but he backed Aaron Fox to be the guy to bring us trophies, believed him to be capable of doing that... and I believe Tony will find someone else if Aaron Fox does not match up to what he expects.. I agree time is running out and those at Steelers towers have some hard decisions to make...

Lets face it, Fox has had plenty of time at the Sheffield Steelers, knows the league and teams. One trophy in his first season is not good enough.
Usually coaches or managers etc in other sports don't get afforded time to turn teams around, not an excuse Fox has. He's also been backed well financially and I can't imagine the players or staff have wanted for much.
Whilst money coming in, is always very important, I also used to think that is all Tony Smith was interested in, but from reading @Jayboy posts and Fairytale's recent article, I have changed my mind that success is equally important to Tony.
We do have a lot of new fans which is brilliant it really is, but I would guess that the majority of the new fan base has never seen us win a trophy before so aren't quite as concerned as some of us that were brought up with that trophy after trophy success. It is interesting that we've not won as many trophies as our closet rivals in Tony's ownership, I didn't know that.
Me personally, whilst I'll never fully walk away from supporting the Steelers, I'm at a similar point to where I got with PT as I think the hockey is a dire watch and certainly not value for money, I've lost confidence in Fox's ability to consistently win us a trophy or play any type of old fashioned Steelers leave it all out on the ice hockey. We get to see that for about 6 games a season.
