Steelers confirm the signing of Zach Vinnell

He will be introduced to Steelers fans at tonight’s home game against Guildford Flames.

Vinnell formerly played for the Glasgow Clan this season.

Head coach Aaron Fox said “ We agreed on a deal with Zach Vinnell.

"Zach is a player who will give us that much needed depth and flexibility in our group especially during this crazy schedule we have the next 5 weeks. He’s a solid Defensemen that has also played some forward as well in his career so it gives us a nice swing option as well.

"With us losing Sam for a minimum of 6 weeks he will join us initially as his injury cover to our roster. We wanted to make sure that we were able to find a good fit and someone who understands the situation he’s coming into. He’s looking to work hard and compete for ice time and hopefully help us achieve our goals”.

In the Peter Spencer interview he had one skate with us this week so was being saved until next weekend after he had sometime to bond and learn systems etc.

What are his reasons for leaving Scotland? seems odd that we take a guy who's not performing for one of our rivals and think he will be good enough for us? Unless he's left for other reasons of course???
Anybody have an insight?

According to the Clan's website, he requested to leave, rather than them giving him the boot. Doesn't go into any specific reasons tho.

Haven't we still got a full compliment of imports?

I'm guessing this guy is just insurance cover in case one of our imports picks up an injury.

I guess if a defenceman gets injured he's the direct replacement.

If a forward gets injured this guy steps in for Shudra who then goes up front.

Yes, seems strange we lose Sam Jones, a Brit, to IR & bring in an Import who cannot ice for Sam whilst he’s injured. Although we did lose Kielly.
.
Nevalainen has been missing on some occasions - Zach could deputise there if this is still troubling him.

Is there an upcoming Brit with Steeldogs, defender or forward, who could be ‘called up’ whilst Sam is on IR? This could be an ideal opportunity to use this new partnership.

It could be related to the situation with Petgrave, he may be classed as off the roster for something like this ?

I assumed he asked to leave Glasgow because we'd approached him.

He wanted more ice time after getting shifted from D to the 4th forward line, which is another reason I find it odd signing for you guys. Thought if he'd go anywhere in the EIHL it would be Fife. By far our weakest D-man.
