GAME THREAD: Steelers v Pardubice: CHL: Wed 16th Oct

9 points historically has been enough to qualify for the knock out stages. Even when it was the old group stages when two qualified from each group.
If we can get the extra point that should be enough.
I've enjoyed our CHL games immensely, hopefully this will just as good as the others.
3-2 Steelers OT win

I read into that, that there is a lot more chance of us qualifying (6 chances ) and more straight forward for next round and only 4 more complicated ways we can get knocked out...

After last week I said to my mates that I think we'll probably go out if we lose tonight in regulation, even though on paper it initially looked like we were already virtually through.
The reason behind my thinking was that none of the teams who could still overtake us were playing each other. They were all playing either teams already eliminated or teams who had qualified, with the exception of Trinec who are above us, but still not qualified yet.
As I see it we need 8 teams to finish below us to qualify.
Currently there are 6 who can't catch us. If I have it correct, after last night the late goal for Straubing means they can catch us, but we'd need to lose by 4. Assuming we don't lose by 4, that leaves one of 4 we need to lose in the other games.
Unia play Trinec - This is probably our best chance, because Trinec aren't quite through yet, so have something to play for.
Lahti play Rouen - Rouen are already out and only have 1 point to date.
Berlin play Sonderjyske - Sonderjyske are already out and have 0 points to date.
Tappara play Lausanne - Lausanne have already qualified.
Based on the above, my guess is Lahti and Belin win comfortably, Tappara probably beat Lausanne, the only one being in doubt is Unia against Trinec, I'd probably edge Trinec to do us a favour.
The simple answer is, to avoid lots of calculators and slide rules, let's get a point tonight.

I believe 1st plays 16th, 2nd v 15th etc, but I'm not sure there's that much incentive to get up the standings.
Teams who have already qualified seem to be losing to those who need the points, so I'm guessing they're resting personnel for their domestic league and/or the later stages of CHL.
All things considered, we've done fantastically well. We're seeded with the poorer teams and were expected to be one of the whipping boys, meaning all our games have been against higher calibre opposition with something to play for.

Thanks for the above posts. I was trying to work out our chances after last night's matches. It could get complicated and there's a lot riding on tonight for Paradubice too so we may need help from elsewhere.
There's no denying our schedule has been tough these last couple of weeks and I think that showed in last weekend's results. We need to be loud and proud tonight to be the extra man.
No matter what the result and no matter whether we progress or not I'm proud of our performances to date and think we can hold our heads up.

Well hopefully the game will go well for the boys and we get the result we want. They should approach the game the way they have for the other CHL games. If they are too negative/defensive in mindset from the start it could spell trouble.
Unfortunately won't be at the game, suffering man flu and had a busy three days at work too!
Let's go Steelers!

Trinec currently 6 - 3 up against Unia with 5 minutes to go, which effectively means that's 7 teams who can't overtake us......just one more to go.
I believe for Straubing to overtake us we'd have to lose by 4, so a 3 goal loss should still be good enough.
Tappara and Lausanne are currently 0 - 0 after 40 minutes. If Lausanne can win that in regulation we're through regardless of our result tonight.
Having said all that, let's just go and beat Pardubice.
