Canadian power forward Mason Mitchell speaking to Peter Spencer, after signing for Sheffield Steelers...
Mason Mitchell: ‘I don’t look for fights, but my style is aggressive & physical
I believe he’s an elite skater that will play a physical game when needed and will play a very reliable two way game. I think his speed will cause problems at our level and he has a really good touch around the net. His pace down the wing really fits the type of style we play and think he will be a guy that creates space for his line mates. Mason likes to get to the hard areas and will be a guy that is also able to stick up for his teammates when needed

It’s hard to tell from the standard interview, every new player is going to say how excited they are to join and they have heard good things. I get the impression we are a step into Europe, which is fine, I’m good with that, careers are short, so long as he gives us his best.
Looking forward to seeing him play.

Gives off Eberle vibes, obviously will hold judgement until the puck drops but high energy, will finish hits and play high on the forecheck. Benefit being that he has that go in him with dropping the gloves if he needs to.

Like the sound of Mitchell, high energy, finishes hits and likes the dirty areas of the ice... oh and he likes sticking up for his team mates
Plays aggressive and guessing he's a good forechecker with the attributes he seems to have so definitely a push from Fox to have some grittier type players is coming through here. Never played outside of NA and still a good age, looking forward to see this guy in orange for sure!

The only risk here really is the fact he’s not experienced the big ice of Europe. Looks enthusiastic and is a good age with size.
Hopefully he can have a career year with us.

This is slightly different to Fox's usual signings, with him being straight from North America with no European experience.SteelerBlade wrote: ↑Tue Jul 26, 2022 9:23 amThe only risk here really is the fact he’s not experienced the big ice of Europe. Looks enthusiastic and is a good age with size.

His ECHL numbers aren't great, I've got him down for 15 goals based on those. However, what's always difficult to judge is how a player switches from the smaller rinks of North America to the larger European ice.
If Mitchell skates well, as suggested, then maybe he'll punch above his weight in terms of predicted goals.
It's these sort of signings that Belfast have really excelled at, hopefully Fox's judgement is just as good.
Petgrave is a safe signing with most boxes ticked, but this one really intrigues me because it's a move from the norm for Fox.
