His teams always seem to start flying and set the pace for the first few months before not being able to sustain the chase.

I wouldn’t dismiss him now as there’s no point so close to the end, but as I’ve said before if we leave this season trophyless I’d look to bring in an alternative option.

Just not sure he’s capable of winning the EIHL title.

He does have excellent contacts that would be difficult to replace recruitment wise, but other sides bring in quality too.

So I’m not sure that he has great contacts for recruitment. No better than anyone else has at least.

Greenfield aside and Latal last season, I can’t really think of a really outstanding player who Fox has found? I’m not keen on his European contacts/players either as I don’t want us to turn into a non contact hockey club.

I also struggle with his Dads Army approach. A little better this year but we’re still older than Belfast who have 3 players in the top 10 point scorers in the league. We have 1 in the top 20.

Is that why we seem to run out of energy after Christmas?

Surely after tonight Fox has to go.

Question now is - Does Tony have the bottle to do it now or does he wait till after our playoff quarterfinal defeat?

I can't see Steelers wining the league with Fox in charge.
Ive seen no improvement in results and performance over his three years in charge.
His systems remain one dimensional with no mid game change in plans, tactics, lines when [frequently] things not going well.
His [the team] pp remains abysmal.
No character, grit, leadership and determination.

Does he have the abilty to fix all these?
We've seen limited evidence over his tenure, why would yet another year make a difference.
Everyone says about his recruitment and contacts. Well its not worked yet has it? Too soft and lacking a proper first line/proper goal scorers.

Would a different/better coach get more out of this set of players? I think so, maybe not much better or by enough to what is needed to turn us into winners. I'd hope that there was more bottle, character, fight though.

I have no doubt that a different coach could get more out of this team. I do not think Fox can because he would have done so by now if that were the case. I find it a great shame and really wanted him to be successful but in recent months I have had to concede it just isn't going to happen and that it's time for a change

When appointed Fox had been General Manager of teams in Europe. His coaching skills were not known as he had limited experience in this area.
Time has shown that his skills in coaching have been limited. As mentioned previously no plan B or plan C.
This has not improved over his term as coach. We slip up in big games (other than one Challenge Cup final). E.G. last years play off QF, this years Cup semi final.
Belfast tonight had 2 less skaters icing but they were over us like a rash. Appeared quicker, better organised, playing better in both ends of the ice. Did Besko have to make a big save? Their defence smothered our attack.

I’ve no names in mind but a change of coach seems the way to go.

I would suggest that history shows that all the successful coaches in our league were previously players in the league.....Blaiser, Lord, Matsos, Keefe, Christiansen, Adey etc.

The only successful coach I can think of who didn't previously play was Ben Simon and he had his team recruited by Matsos.

I think to be successful in our league:

1. You need to know the league and type of style It takes to be successful and

2. You need good contacts, especially in North America.

I'm guessing Keefe and/or Thornton have very good contacts in North America.

I'm not sure which current/ex players in our league are coaching material, but if we do make a change I think history suggests this is the route to go down.....maybe Adey?
