Wow just wow, what a display from our guys, we were out on our feet at the end, we never gave up and grind out a win to a very very good Cardiff team..

Realistically that was as good as we could have hoped for. They were the better team for the first period but by the end of the third we’re looking out on their skates. Even so they held out for 2 mins of 6 on 5. Greenfield off and running at his best and a good balanced side in front of him held their own all night.

Btw. We did better at face offs than last year. Our pp kills were assured. Cardiff had 3 I think and we managed them all well. Our pp didn’t get much of an outing so can’t comment on it much. To see Bowns get MoM so that indicates our competitiveness. All told a good evening.
Another entertaining and enjoyable game.
I thought we deserved the win. Greenfield continuing his excellent form from last season.
Really enjoy watching Tansey and Watling. Both players living up to their pre-signing billing.
Vallerand was the only minor negative for me. He looks a little off the pace at the moment.
Cardiff have had far more preparation than us, so I was pleasantly surprised with the deserved win.
Well done lads.

Two games in, two games of proper Steelers hockey. Long may it continue. Dominated most.of the game bar tiring late in the third. Tansey.and watling going to be massive players for us for very contrasting reasons. I thought Diffley was excellent too, a quiet unassuming player who gets on with job.
Vally? I'm not sure, is it a season too far or has he over-trained like a boxer and cut too much weight? Has he lost any zip and physicality?.

A lot more positives than negatives for me.
I thought we did a great job in protecting Greenfield who in the end didn't have a lot to deal with.
At the back end Tansey takes no nonsense, Saucerman is a superb passer and Diffley quietly goes about his business impressively.
Of the forwards Watling catches the eye, he's all over the ice making things happen. I thought Simpson and Ciampini both played very solid two way games.
The only negative for me would be the faceoffs, I might be wrong but tonight it felt closer to 40%.
Considering the preparation of the two teams, that was an outstanding performance.

Must have been watching diff games if you thought Cardiff was better in the 1st I thought that we were, I don’t even think Cardiff had a shot on target in the 1st.Bryan wrote: ↑Sat Sep 16, 2023 9:34 pmRealistically that was as good as we could have hoped for. I did find that comment little odd. The game sheet shows shots per period were:Morpheous wrote: ↑Sun Sep 17, 2023 9:30 amMust have been watching diff games if you thought Cardiff was better in the 1st I thought that we were, I don’t even think Cardiff had a shot on target in the 1st.Bryan wrote: ↑Sat Sep 16, 2023 9:34 pmRealistically that was as good as we could have hoped for. I would say we were comfortably the better team in the 1st.

I knew the Devils would play a bit physical/chippy but I was disappointed with their play acting/simulation trying to trick refs into giving us penalties. There was 3-4 occasions where this happened. Disappointing to see.
