right decision imo.
Definitely the correct decision.
I wondered if the CC might be cancelled as a whole. If not, then re-name it to the Adam Johnson cup if agreed to by his family as a tribute.
Panthers may not play again this season. I do hope they do though.

It hit me hard over the weekend and I have thought, how will I look down at the ice without an image of Adam Johnson in my mind. More time will help I think. I will be there but it won’t be comfortable or normal.
I also think there are a lot of people at the club (players and staff) who would find it very hard.
For that reason I think it’s a good decision.
Honestly I wonder how the club as whole will come back from this in the short to medium term. It will be tough for us all I think. Indeed a fan interviewed on Look North tonight thinks many fans who witnessed it all on Saturday may not return. Think of the children present. How will parents react?
The club needs time but I think a lot of work will be needed in the coming days and weeks to recover from this with respect and sensitivity for all concerned.
I certainly don’t think it will or should be business a usual.

The situation will have an impact around the world, but more specifically here in the UK, and especially in Sheffield and Nottingham. Correct decision, in my opinion. I struggle to imagine the players involved coming back fully from this

I completely agree. After 27 years of supporting the Steelers at this moment i just can’t imagine walking back through the doors. Other friends from the Steelers have also said the same.steeler pete wrote: ↑Mon Oct 30, 2023 11:10 pmIt hit me hard over the weekend and I have thought, how will I look down at the ice without an image of Adam Johnson in my mind. It's a really hard thing to discuss, but this must be player led and in the best interest of them and their mental well being, I fully agree with this weekends cancellations and any further game decisions on when to play should be fully agreed by the players and nobody should play if they feel they dont want or can't...

The future games seem to have dropped out of our calendar.
Boxing Day and New Years Eve are still in, but that’s because I have bought extra tickets so it’s a Ticketmaster diary link thingy.

Like everybody who was there on Saturday this incident shook me to the core and in quiet moments of reflection I still see Johnson trying to skate across the ice in my mind.
However, I'm going to take a slightly different view and say that I want to get back on the horse as soon as possible. I think it will help going back into the arena with fellow supporters who witnessed the awful incident and reflect together and show our respects.
To me it was just a freak accident which I'll never see again. I would think there's more chance of me witnessing a car accident whilst being out and about on a Saturday night than something like that.
I always remember reading an article by Jack Charlton who said he didn't like flying, but if he did he'd rather fly with his Brother. His logic was that Bobby had been involved in a one in a million plane crash, so for the same thing to happen to somebody twice would be in the billions to one.....you can sort of see his logic.
Obviously everybody needs to make their own decisions, but for me I'd like to get back as soon as possible and try to get some routine back.
I can see it being difficult for the kids. Instead of pestering their parents to go to the game on a Saturday night, now I could see them strongly objecting to going.
Ultimately I think the decision of when we re-start again needs to be with the players, but this has to be backed up by specialists who agree they're mentally fit to start playing again.
I hope I'm wrong, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if Matt Petgrave calls it a day on his career. He clearly loves the game when you listen to him in interviews, but psychologically he's probably more damaged than anybody.
My final point is there is another victim in all this and that is Tony Smith. Obviously it's not in the same ball park as Johnson's family and friends, but Tony has done a fabulous job in building our fanbase and making the hockey a great family night out....and then this.
It's a horrible situation for everybody and each individual needs to deal with it in their own way.
Regards

I totally agree the decision to restart rests with the players, however they are athletes & will need to keep match fit. A long lay-off & they will need a ‘pre-season’ to get up to speed again. This will also apply to the Panthers players although they may be more affected having lost a colleague.
You wonder if behind closed door friendlies between the two teams may be arranged to check their mental toughness. Particularly Panthers players if their next return to the arena is on Boxing Day! Practice is one thing but actually competing again may be more challenging.
The league is continuing with 8 teams this weekend - all future fixtures may change as each teams games are rescheduled to keep these 8 teams active.
If Steelers & Panthers are to complete the season, I can see a lot of midweek games both home & away.
