Indeed, but the Steelers had both those goalies on their books at one point.
Neither were our out and out number 1.
Didn't we let Bowns go to Hull? We had Whistle for one season, he wasn't our number 1 either.
Question for me remains.......Does anyone see a Brit number 1 goalie at the Steelers?

On Whistle, at that point I believe he was still struggling with injury that prevented him playing back to back. He was also younger and still developing.smbmetal wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 1:52 pmIndeed, but the Steelers had both those goalies on their books at one point.

Bowns was the probable error, but again, would have been a huge risk. He went and played loads for Hull which probably got him up to a solid level quicker, since they were expecting to struggle regardless.
The issue all young Brits have, regardless of position, is that they are generally not trained to the standard needed early enough. Ice time is a major issue - kids need to be on the ice 3/4 times a week from a young age, and then need better coaching to help reach the required level at the age of 21 to be stepping up to EIHL level.
GB u18s are in div 2A. We need to be raising the level to be supplying guys ready for EIHL. That's nothing to do with import numbers as some place all the blame on. Junior development is our biggest reason for lack of success at international level. If that could be sorted, we'd definitely start to see more EIHL starting Brit goalies
I'm delighted to see Cormier back.
He joined us during a very difficult and emotional time and had some incredibly big skates to fill. I thought the loss of Petgrave, who for me was arguably the best offensive dman in the league, could derail our season.
I think it says a lot about how Cormier performed that we never really felt the loss of Petgrave on the ice.
I did expect Cormier to re-sign, because it was clear he loved his time here, but until it's in the bag you just don't know.

To be fair to Whistle when he was here, the utter dross he had in front of him didn't help his cause....smbmetal wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 1:52 pmIndeed, but the Steelers had both those goalies on their books at one point.
