Statement from Fox

And it's stuff like this as to why I'm a huge fan of Fox. Run through brick walls for a guy like that
Agreed, Says what he means and means what he says, the standards will be kept even if it causes short term pain to the club. Pu is lucky Fox didn't strap his skates and pads on, skate out in practice and proceed to hammer him. Regardless of results he is someone who has earned respect for the way he acts.
No messing about. Credit to both Fox and the club for acting swiftly and professionally. Top marks

Just for fun…….Out of interest, would we have signed Mosienko under Fox’s leadership? I don’t think we would, Fox’s professional values are too high to risk damaging the club or his reputation.

Absolutely. I do hope when the time comes for him to move on from the Head Coach role, he stays with the club in a GM/Head of Hockey Ops type role. As someone said earlier, he's had to deal with multiple tragic/difficult incidents that the club has gone through, and every time he's stood tall and shown compassion and leadership.

I'm sure we've all questioned some of Fox's decisions, but in terms of professionalism and leading the club during some very difficult events he gets an A+.

Regarding Pu, I was just looking at his numbers and they weren't great. 4 + 7 from 18 games is a poor return from what was supposed to be one of our premium players. He was also joint bottom of our imports for +/-.

For me he was a poor recruit, but hopefully if Watling is anything like he was before it should be a decent upgrade.

As I mentioned on another thread, I wouldn't mind seeing Watling between Juusola and Tait.

Regards

Some things are more important than hockey. We are lucky to have an owner and a coach who have shown themselves to be thoroughly decent people. Proud to be a Steeler today.

CLIFF PU SENTENCED

After pleading guilty to two counts of assault at a previous hearing, the court has now delivered its ruling.
Cliff Pu has been fined £1,335 and will pay a total of £1,951 once costs are included.
Defending, David Williams told the court:

His professional career is finished, there is no realistic prospect of him continuing to play.
It was also heard that Pu’s visa was revoked following the loss of his contract with the Sheffield Steelers, and he could now also lose his place on an MBA course at Sheffield Hallam University.

A former professional ice hockey player has been fined more than £1,300 for assaulting a woman.

Clifford Pu, 27, admitted two counts of assault by beating which took place in November and December 2025.

Sheffield Magistrates' Court heard how he left his partner at the time with bruising to her hands and an injured nose in one incident and ripped an item of clothing off her body in another.

Pu, who has moved back to his native Canada since losing his contract with Sheffield Steelers, was fined £1,335 by the court and will pay a total of £1,951 including costs.

A witness, who could see into his accommodation from her home, said the woman was "cowering away, pulling her arms in and physically flinching" during one incident, which lasted about 30 minutes.

CCTV footage showed the woman trying to hide around a corner from him during the course of the earlier assault.

A second neighbour heard shouting and looked through their peephole to see Pu dragging the woman along the corridor and her "actively resisting".

In a statement in December, Sheffield Steelers said he was "no longer associated with the club with immediate effect".

He had been signed at the start of the 2025/26 season, making 28 appearances before his contract was terminated.

David Williams, defending, said: "His professional career is finished, there is no realistic prospect of him continuing to play."

He said Pu had his visa revoked as a result of losing his contract with Sheffield Steelers and could also lose a place on an MBA course at Sheffield Hallam University.

Pu had started therapy to "make sure he is not someone who has these problems in the future", Mr Williams added, saying he had shown "genuine remorse" for his actions.

Magistrates ruled it was "not feasible" to give him a community order, which would last a minimum of one year, as he would not be allowed to remain in the country for more than six months.

The fine itself is very little punishment in my opinion. The effect on his future will no doubt be a bigger cost to him but less than 2 grand is no real punishment at all

I wouldn't really say so in regards to that, just look over the pond and the amount of times teams still sign players with similar (even worse) convictions.

Pu is back in Canada and I doubt he would ever get a visa to re-enter the UK. I appreciate that many would have liked to have seen a harsher punishment, I'm one of them but he has been sacked by the club, charged and convicted, punished with a fine and loss of his education course which is in effect an even greater fine as it will cost him a great deal more money to obtain a degree over there. But the focus shouldn't be on him anymore but on the victim, her wellbeing and future.

I don’t understand how a witness said the assault went on for 30 minutes and she watched it from her window. Why didn’t she call the authorities or perhaps she did
I know there is a thing that says don’t get involved but hells bells you wouldn’t stand there and watch it , would you?
